Take my crocheted floor mat. I came down this morning and noticed this...

Seems when my MIL cleans, she uses bleach. It's no big deal, really. I'm not upset or anything. It's a floor mat. It's built to be abused.
However, it makes me think of the sweaters I've made. I'm always scared to wear them because what if I spill something?? What if it's greasy and won't wash out? I spent all that time picking a pattern, picking the yarn, then of course making the damn thing, seaming, blocking (if I, in fact blocked anything)... and then the first time I wear it *BAM* spaghetti sauce. What then??? That would devastate me (knitting-wise).
Luckily, I've only ever completely finished 4 tops!

My seaming sucks so usually after a gentle wash everything falls apart. The last one was a brown sweater that was too small. I threw it in the washer because I thought, fall apart, I don't care, and so it did. The thing that was really bad was that I learned that day (not being a big blocker myself) how water could change things and soften up the yarn and I got even more mad at the fact that it didn't fit and became spaghetti-like at the shoulder seams.
So far there hasn't been a major FO that I've liked well enough to care when it falls apart. The disappointment comes a little earlier.
I look at it as an excuse to knit something new. I'm not that patient about laundry, so I've ruined more than one handknit by throwing it in the washer or dryer. Mostly I just get online and order new yarn--that cheers me right up.
Yeah, my clothing tends to serve as a bib (things I eat)! Or apron (splashes from things like bleach-which I do use on whites because we don't have hot water). So far I haven't made any sweaters that cost so dear...well, maybe that malabrigo number, but it is pretty pilly anyhow.
I haven't knit a lot of things that I actually wear...

It is maddening when something you have worked so hard on gets mistreated by someone else. It is possible to repair the damage with duplicate stitching if you have some left over yarn.
I saw from your comment on my blogthat you send an email about a lawyer in Fresno. I just went back through everything and I can't find it. If it is not too much trouble, could you re-send it?
