Here's the view from inside our tent...
You can't see it in the still picture but those trees were swaying gently in a cool breeze and making a sound like you hear in an ocean shell.
Here's the view from behind our tent...
That's Turquoise Lake in Leadville, CO.
The boys ran down to the beach the moment we arrived....
There was lots of relaxing by that lake...
We taught the boys to bait a hook...
to hold a pole...
and lines were thrown...
and lines were thrown...
and thrown...
patience was practiced....
They actually caught one fish! It was 14" greenback trout and Dave caught it. T made him throw it back since, apparently, it's the state fish. Dave went ahead and did as T asked because it was after dinner and the campfire was already out so no use keeping it, really.
There was a lot of bbq'ing and we made s'mores. I've been camping about a hundred times (as a kid) and I've never had s'mores. We used to roast marshmallows for sure but never made s'mores! They are really good!
We relaxed and had a great time with no electronics. Just peace and quiet....
We played board games and I read some more of the first Harry Potter book to the kids. We all read a lot of whatever books we had brought and I knit quite a bit.
The first night, it was insanely cold. So cold that Dave and I didn't get much sleep. The next night, we all dressed in many more layers and Dave heated some bricks in the fire. We put the bricks on a towel in the tent and wow - what a difference! We all slept like babies!
It was all so lovely! The first night around the campfire, in the dark, I looked at Dave and said, "I'm so happy!" and I actually got all teary. The quiet and sitting there with the family, in the woods, around a campfire.... nothing better!
Got to do that more often, Ruth!

I got teary, too, just thinking about how wonderful it is to be alone with one's family. What a great little vacation -- you must do more of that!
We just got back from a week at my family's cabin in extreme northern Michigan. It is the same thing - no TV, internet or phone. It is such an amazing way to connect with each other.
Hi Ruth!
I got teary too. I'm glad you and your family had some alone time together. It sounds like it was perfect.
David and I are doing our version of that. Tomorrow we're goint to Mt. Lemmon and stay in a cabin AWAY FROM EVERYONE.
I miss you!

What fun! Marcus and I haven't been camping in years. I really want to go. Can't believe you had never had a s'more before.
